 B O L L Y W O O D Tutor: Shab Tavakol Workshops — by Eastern Flavaz — Bollywood Dancers Shab’s Bollywood dance classes will have you swinging your hips like a bellydancer and twirling around in dizzy circles like a Sufi dervish while stamping your feet to intricate Indian classical footwork and bouncing around to funky and fun choreography. She will teach you the basics of Bollywood dance using innovative ways to help you learn the steps correctly with passion and the energy of the East. You will learn a Bollywood dance number for a final performance extravaganza at the festival where you will be dancing and looking like the BOLLYWOOD STARS! Basic dance training in: Modern Indian Indian Classical Indian Folk (Bhangra) Arabic & Persian Western Jazz/Funk What to bring: Loose clothing, bangles, bellychains and a sense of adventure. Open Classes: suitable for all ages, men women and children. Beginners to Intermediate. |
SHAB TAVAKOL Born of both Indian and Persian heritage and growing up in modern Australia I have had a rare opportunity to learn from both Eastern and Western styles of dance. Such exposure has greatly benefited my dance style and training which contains an assortment of Indian Classical and Folk Dance (Including Kathak, Kathakali, Odyssey) from Kala Bharta School of Indian Dance and Jazz Ballet /Jazz Funk from Harlow School of Dance. Along with this I have trained in Visual Theatre (Puppetry, Mime, Drama, Commedia del'Arte,) from Professional artists of Horizon Theatre Company impacting my dance performances with an expressive theatrical edge. I have since choreographed and performed for a variety of international Bollywood artists and am a performer for Farah Shah’s Bollywood Spice. I currently choreograph and perform with Wahab Shah for Eastern Flavaz — Bollywood Dancers, creating fresh dynamic Bollywood dance experiences for audiences everywhere. |
| Tutor: Wahab Shah Born in Pakistan and grew up with the likes of “Bollywood”
which was ultimately mesmerizing. The sound, feel, atmosphere was just bursting with
creativity, and in that, he came to discover and develop his flaw. He migrated to
Australia and came across many diverse styles of music and dance. Understanding the
meaning behind each performance inspired creation of his own style. This lead to
training with Tiffany Mourhead,… (Australia's leading dancer), as well as training
in classical Indian with Ustaad Suman Gi, and lastly, graduation from TAFE NSW in
2002 with a Diploma in Theatre and Dramatics Arts. Also had the honour of performing/choreographing
for some of the biggest names in the Bollywood industry, including world-renowned
DJ Punjabi MC, UK pop sensations, Stereo Nations, and the BIG name in the Bollywood
industry, Sonu Nigam. Appears wiith Farah Shah's, Bollywood Spice and and has established
his own dance group, Eastern Flavaz, in Sydney. Wahab.'s Bollywood dance sessions will have your shoulders and hips working to the max to the funky beats of Bollywood and Bhangra. You'll indulge in the experience of being a Bollywood film star, yes... and have fun with choreography designed to give a taste of what Bollywood has to offer. |
