7TH APRIL 2011

Hello, everyone
Just a few words about next term and to say thanks so much to the teachers and students for their input to the fundraiser last Saturday night. About $3000.00 has been raised so far, with another garage sale of costumes at 2 Bowra Street next market day — Saturday 16th April. Most students (and parents) made an effort with the additional practice times and were able then to present themselves confidently in the performance. It was a successful event both in terms of the money raised for the New York-bound dancers and the presentation of items. Considering the short rehearsal preparation time, no dress rehearsal, and that there were quite a few newcomers performing in the Song & Dance groups the outcomes were rather good. Thank you too, to the donors of goods and cash for the auction and raffle (listed on the Rivers web page) and to the thoughtful folk who stayed behind after the event to help with the cleanup.

Make-up Workshop (about 90 mins.) 2:15 PM next Saturday 9th April @ the Studio - $10
This is a great opportunity to learn some principles about make-up and pre-teen and teen students should attend. There are places left for this useful session with professional TV, Film & Theatre make-up artist, Janine Brown. Please register with Peter on 6655 2472 and check the attached flier to see what you need to bring.

Term 2 resumes on Tuesday 26th April.
Please note the changes for next term whilst Peter is away chaperoning the dancers in NYC
Boys Krew on Wednesdays will not run until week 7 (8th June)
Intro Ballet on Thursday is cancelled for Term 2. Students in that class will be notified separately of alternative class options.
All other classes are as scheduled, with deputy teachers or Antonia.

We are very pleased to announce that contemporary classes on Tuesdays are to be taught by Lainey Anthony who comes to us with an impressive bio and individual approach to contemporary dance training. New students are welcome in the Teen class (5:15 PM at the studio)

Lainey’s Bio
Lainey Anthony trained at the Victorian College of the Arts studying all styles of dance, on completion she danced with the Russian Theatrical Society. A recurrent knee injury led her to study Remedial Massage and yoga. She has worked as a Remedial massage Therapist for 20 yrs and runs a private practice in Bellingen and Dorrigo. Lainey also has a Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy, and has run regular dance classes and workshops in school and community settings. Her classes have ranged from RAD ballet classes pre-primary - intermediate, creative dance and contemporary classes for children and adults, adult ballet classes and dance therapy for adults with cerebral palsy and children with special needs. Lainey has a strong background in the technique of dance, performance, the anatomy of the body, how it works and moves and a passion for bringing out the dancer in us all.

Thanks again, everyone — enjoy the holidays and Easter break.

ANNUAL RECITAL 2 PM & 7 PM - Sat 10th & Sun 11th December 2011

Hip Hop classes resume on Wednesday 2nd March @ Memorial at 4:45 PM. Jade Robinson (who trained in NYC on the 2010 intensive study trip) will be bringing some of the style she learned in the Big Apple to her instruction of the class and will be assisted by Ellen Crossman.

Parents: kindly try to have your youngster at the studio 5 or 10 minutes prior to commencement of instruction. The younger children arrive in a stressed state if they are late, particularly if they see that the class has begun.

Antonia and I wish to thank you for the cards, compliments and gifts received at the 2010 presentations. Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness. We do hope you continue to enjoy your dance training with the studio….

Thanks, everyone, Peter & Antonia.
